Mikláš Galanda was born on November 11, 1900, in the village of Turčianska Štiavnička, located in present-day Slovakia, which at the time was part of Austria-Hungary. He was the son of a working-class family, and his early life was shaped by the rural landscape and folk traditions of the region. His interest in art developed at a young age, and he moved to the city of Bratislava to study at the Academy of Fine Arts in 1919.
